Rafael Gálvez

Rafa Gálvez is soloist and executive director of NEOPERCUSIÓN.

Born in Manises, Valencia, he graduated with honors at the Superior Conservatory of Valencia. He was awarded with the First Prize of the 2nd National Prize for Young Percussionists.

Supported by the Consellería d’Educació i Ciencia de Valencia he studied at the Porto’s Superior School of Music and Performing Arts. He made further studies at the Centre for Music Studies «Neopercusión» in Madrid.

He has been professor at the Profesional Conservatory of Music of Gijon, the Centre for Music Studies «Neopercusión», and at the Superior Conservatory of Balearic Islands. He is often invited by youth orchestras, music conservatories and professional music schools to teach advanced training courses on instrumental technique.

He is member of NEOPERCUSION since 2005, and since then he thoroughly works on fostering the music for percussion through the collaboration with outstanding soloists, ensembles and composers as Markus Stockhausen, Arditti Quartet, Daniel del Pino, Ludmil Angelov, Iñaki Alberdi, Raquel Andueza, Arbos Trio, Louis Aguirre, José María Sánchez Verdú, Mauricio Sotelo, Ramón Humet, Jesús Torres, Alberto Bernal, etc.

The production of new music along these past years has been very intense, either in collaboration with living composers, other artists, or giving first performances in Spain of the most important works for percussion; or through the production of educational shows for spreading and bringing music closer to the society; or through the technical direction of Ritmo Vital and Konekt@rte Sonoro festivals.

Besides his work with NEOPERCUSION, he is a very active musician in the field of chamber music and as soloist. The recording for Kairos of Cesar Camarero’s Concert for two percussionists and orchestra with the National Orchestra of Spain and Peter Hirsch is just one example of this.

Rafa Gálvez has been member of the Youth Orchestra of Spain, Oviedo City Symphonic Orchestra, the Madrid Community Orchestra, and since 2006 he is Percussion Soloist of the National Orchestra of Spain. He is also professor at the Centro Superior Katarina Gurska in Madrid. Rafa exclusively performs with instruments by Zildjian, Malletech, Novapercusio-Remo, Promusin and Jeff Mallets.
